Here is a collection of 17 most beautiful birds in the world .

Purple Finches have declined in numbers when the non-native House Finch was introduced in 1940. The House Finches original territory was Southwestern United States and Mexico, but was introduced to Long Island in 1940 and quickly spread throughout the east. Fights between Purple and House Finches almost always end up with the House Finch being the victor.

These pictures were taken on May 7th & 8th, 2009 in our back yard. They usually stay in the same area that they were brought up in and learn to sing from other White Crowned Sparrows that are close to them. Because of this, they actually have different songs or dialects, depending on where they were raised
He's a very striking bird, especially when he flies as he has large white patches on his wings. The first time I saw him this year was May 1oth. I watched him closely and on May 12th I noted that he was hiding seeds for future use and then he got on a dead tree and started hammering on the tree and calling. I presume that this is the action he would take to attract a mate. Sure enough, the following day a second Red Headed Woodpecker showed up. I'm hoping they'll stay for the summer.Design in CSS by TemplateWorld and sponsored by SmashingMagazine
