Pictures of Hummingbirds

Hummingbirds are a delightful visitor to any home or garden. Taking pictures of hummingbirds that visit the yard is an extra treat.

Most species seen in yards around the United States are neotropical migrants who move to northern climates for breeding season.

There are also many instances of some species wintering in Northern areas. Anna's hummingbirds, for example, winter along the West Coast in California and Oregon.

Hummingbirds are territorial, so once they find the proper food at your house (either natural tube flowers or a feeder), they have a tendency to return year after year.

Most hummingbird species in the United States are found in the West.

As a group, they are relatively friendly birds. If you sit quietly in a spot near their favorite food source, they will often fly and/or perch close to you.
